AppView360
Context
Layout360Studio wanted to show their work to potential clients smoothly and anywhere, without depending on internet. The studio's render software exports each tour as a website (files and folders) that can only be opened when served via HTTP/HTTPS, which complicated offline presentations.
Solution
I developed a mobile app with React Native for Android. The studio compresses each tour into a ZIP, imports it into the app, and the app decompresses it, organizes it, and displays it. To work without internet, the app runs a local HTTP server on the phone that serves those files to the viewer, solving the limitation of the exporter's web format.
Features
- Import 360° tours from ZIP files
- Classification in categories defined by the studio (houses, warehouses, etc.)
- Filtering to find projects easily
- Integrated 360° viewer working 100% offline
- Embedded local HTTP server to serve content to WebView
- Automatic thumbnail generation
- Touch gesture navigation (pan, zoom, rotation)
- Dark theme interface with smooth animations
- Android (built with React Native, cross-platform)
Technical Challenges
The main challenge was implementing an embedded local HTTP server in React Native. I chose the exporter's web format because it was the simplest to integrate, and solved the limitation that it only opens via HTTP by serving it from the device itself. This allows the 360° viewer to work offline, loading assets from the phone's storage.
